three examples of beautiful typography in web design

With a background in visual communication I understand just how important typography is. Typography taps into our emotions and part of our everyday reality. It conveys a different message about the product or person you are working to show. When printing out a warning symbol you are not likely to type it in comic sans. Or when you are marking signs on the highway you are not likely to use a serif font as people cannot read it quickly. There are many logistical reasons but then there are emotions that are at play. When writing a menu for a dessert shop you may use more lowercase letters and use a script typeface. When writing a book about a war you may write in stark serif letters to show the seriousness of the war or a classical font –depending on the year of the war. There are so many subconscious influences which is what I think I love about it so much. Most important of all, especially when it comes to web design is legibility.

Finding a site with satisfying, clarifying and legible type is chefs kiss! Here are some of my favorite!

Naughty Nancy is a portfolio and design service website based out of Australia. The website has frequently changing colors but the font is consistent and bold yet simple throughout the page. It stays clear and easy to understand as a viewer. Fonts used: Apfel Grotezk and HAL Matex

Anoche Sone is a clothing website thats font plays into the whimsy of the color and actions abilities the user has within the site. Font used: Astloch

Pepperclip Studio is a design studio that uses san serif font throughout there mainly black and white portfolio site so that the user is able to see the work that the studio has created. However, on the home page they include an interactive illustration that produces multiple fonts, showcasing their brand as designers. Font used: Matter and Vulf Mono
